About The Overview Effekt

Through sci-fi (and fiction in general), I think there is a memetic encoding of deep insight into the human condition that is more and more relevant with the cloud of AGI looming at the horizon. I am not afraid. I see a liberation that will allow us to focus on figuring out what it means to be human; how our minds work; the mysteries illuminated by the interaction between conscious thought and unconscious action.

All of that was a fancy way to say, “Stories teach us about ourselves.” Even with AI, we humans will always be the best conduits to our souls. And we still have a lot of learning to do.

About the Author

I am a writer and creator who would've been a scientist or an astronaut if life had other plans. I've been a cinematographer, an IT guy, a carpenter, a pauper, a pirate, a poet and a king. Since I can't explore space, I explore the next best thing: the mind... by writing about space.

The Name

The "Overview Effect" is a cognitive shift reported by astronauts when viewing Earth from space - a profound realization of our planet's fragility and the interconnectedness of all life.

The name "The Overview Effekt" (with a 'k') was chosen because the domain name was available.
