These terms govern your use of The Overview Effekt at overvieweffekt.com (the "Site"), including accounts and paid membership. By using the Site you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
Who we are
The Site is operated by Jackson Veigel, an individual based in South Dakota, United States ("we", "us"). You can reach us at contact@overvieweffekt.com.
Accounts
You can browse most of the Site without an account. To become a member you sign in with Google or with a one-time code sent to your email. You are responsible for keeping access to that email or Google account secure and for everything done through your account. You must be at least 13 to use the Site and at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to buy a membership.
Membership
Membership is a paid subscription, billed monthly or annually in advance. Payments are handled by Clerk and Stripe; we never see your full card details. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time from your account (Manage account, then Billing). Cancelling stops future charges; your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not give refunds for partial periods, though we may refund at our discretion if something has gone wrong on our side.
If we change the price, we will tell you before it applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes we are required to collect.
What membership includes
Membership unlocks member-only parts of the Site, such as the full Galaxy Map and any tools, posts or writing marked for members. What is included may change over time as things are added, reworked or retired. We do not promise that any particular item will stay available for the life of your subscription.
Acceptable use
Do not share your account, work around a membership gate, scrape or bulk-download the Site, redistribute member-only content, or use the Site to break the law or harm others. We may suspend or close an account that does.
Content and ownership
The words, images, video, code, interactives and design of the Site belong to us or to the people who licensed them to us, and are for your personal, non-commercial use. Some data sets are derived from public astronomical catalogues under their own licences and are credited where they are used. Names of films, books, games and other franchises belong to their owners and are used only to identify where a star appears.
Third-party services
The Site uses Clerk for accounts, Stripe for payments, Vercel for hosting, and embeds from YouTube. Their terms apply to their services. We are not responsible for them.
No warranty
The Site is provided as is. The calculators, maps and other tools are for education and entertainment; they are not professional advice, and we do not promise they are accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from the Site, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from Manage account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) do.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept it; for material changes affecting members we will give notice by email or on the Site first.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in South Dakota, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
